补充资料：《图书馆学五定律》
印度图书馆学理论著作。S.R.阮冈纳赞著，1931年初版。1957年第2 版。中译本由侯汉清、夏云等据此译出，书目文献出版社1988年11月出版。该书提出的图书馆学的"五定律"是：①书是为了用的；②每个读者有其书；③每本书有其读者；④节省读者的时间；⑤图书馆是一个生长着的有机体。作者认为它们是"从图书馆工作已经呈现的趋势中反映出来的，并能够提出目前尚未明朗的未来趋势的规范原则"。作者在书中分别详细阐述了这五条定律，并提出实施或贯彻这些定律的具体措施和方法。如为了使每一本书找到需要它的读者 (第三定律),图书馆要开展一系列的工作：采用开架借阅制、编目时为丛书和多主题图书作分析著录、开展参考咨询工作、采用各种手段宣传图书、选择图书时要充分考虑读者的兴趣和需求等等。为了节省读者的时间 (第四定律),图书馆需要作多方面的改革，如改闭架为开架、改进出纳方法和缩短借还书时间、地区性图书馆多设分馆和流通站、把书送到读者手中等等。"图书馆学五定律"从根本上改变了图书馆的传统观念，在图书馆界引起了根本性变革，如第一定律推翻了传统图书馆"书是为了保存"的观念，第二定律则改变了"书是为特定的少数人"的观念，从而提出了开放的现代图书馆的概念，使图书馆充满了生机和活力，并赋予图书馆工作以极大的社会意义。第四、第五定律则阐明了图书馆是一个相互联系、相互制约的系统，强调图书馆要考虑经济效益及其对未来社会和科技发展的适应能力。五定律总结了有关图书馆的一些基本规律，深刻阐述了图书馆的性质和任务，指明了图书馆工作的出发点和目的。全书充满了以读者为中心的思想、整体化的观点和发展的观点，并采用了新的研究方法即演绎的方法，从五定律出发阐明了图书馆中各种要素和各种工作的内在联系。"图书馆学五定律"的提出，充实和完善了图书馆学的内容，对图书馆学和图书馆事业的发展有很大的影响，"五定律"后来成为阮冈纳赞图书馆学理论体系的核心，作者自称其很多著作都是由此推导、引申或以此为指导思想而研究出来的。该书出版后被译成多种文字，受到各国图书馆学界的重视。1956年8 月作者鉴于世界图书馆的形势发生了变化，增写了"科学方法、图书馆学以及征服世界的进军"一章，论述了五定律在新的形势下的应用和发展，以及作为一门科学的图书馆学的学科内容、研究方法等。
