工程经济学（engineeringeconomics）是以工程技术为主体，以技术-经济系统为核心，研究如何有效利用工程技术资源，促进经济增长的科学。他不研究工程技术原理与应用本身，也不研究影响经济效果的各种因素，而研究各种工程技术方案的经济效果。
这里的工程技术是广义的，是人类利用和改造自然的手段。它不仅包含劳动者技艺，还包括部分取代这些技艺的物质手段。因此，工程技术是包括劳动工具、劳动对象等一切劳动的物质手段和体现为工艺、方法、程序、信息、经验、技巧和管理能里的非物质手段。
