植物形态：落叶灌木，高可达4米，枝条丛生，呈方形，棕褐色，皮孔突出，树皮内具油细胞。叶对生，卵状椭圆形或卵状披针形，长6~18厘米，宽4~7厘米，基部圆形或阔楔形，先端渐尖，全缘，无毛，表面深绿色，粗糙，背面浅绿色，具短柄，柄长0.3~1厘米，无托叶。花先叶开放，黄色，带浓郁芳香，花密生于已落的叶腋处，花被多数，螺旋状排列，雄蕊5~6枚，雌蕊多数，分离，生于壶形的花托内，花托口部收缩，边缘有不孕性雄蕊，子房1室，有1胚珠。瘦果具种子1枚，为花托所包藏，熟时花托长大成倒卵形或卵圆形的假果，外有绢丝状毛。 生态分布：产我国中部；全国各地有栽植。 药用部分：花蕾及花12月~翌年1月（大雪~大寒）分批摘取花蕾及初开放的花入药。 用途：性味辛、苦、温，无毒。能解暑生津，开胃散瘀。治心烦渴，气郁纳滞。现代用治麻疹，百日咳。采花浸生油中为"腊梅花油"，治烫伤。根及茎作镇静、镇咳、止喘药。用量：1~3钱。
