植物形态：草本或落叶亚灌木，高约1米。变异极大，多少被柔毛。叶互生，具叶柄，下部的近圆形，上部的较狭，长椭圆形至披针形，长3~9厘米，基部心形，掌状3~7脉，边缘有锯齿，或3~5浅裂，裂口阔，背面主脉基部有1腺体。花淡红色，单生或稍丛生于叶腋，小苞片约与萼等长，均被星状柔毛，萼、花瓣均5枚，雄蕊多数，下部联合，子房上位，5室。蒴果扁球形，具刺毛。 生态分布：产我国长江以南各省；多生于山坡林边，荒山草地。 药用部分：根、叶供药用，6~10月采。 用途：性味微甘、涩、平，无毒。能去风除湿，活血止血，健脾益虚。用量：根1~2两。
