【来源】
为苋科植物鸡冠花的种子。植物形态详"鸡冠花"条。
【采集】
9～10月果实成熟时采收。割取地上部分，晒干，搓出种子，拣去杂质。
【药材】
干燥的种子，细小，扁卵圆球形，直径1～1.5毫米.表面平滑，黑色有光泽。扩大镜下观察，可见表面有细密网纹和小的凹点。种皮薄而脆。种仁黄白色。无臭，味淡.以饱满、色黑、光亮者为佳。 本品在多数地区作青葙子使用，参见"青葙子"条。
【化学成分】
含脂肪油。
【药理作用】
试管法证明，种子煎剂对人阴道毛滴虫有良好作用，与药液接触后5～10分钟，虫体即趋消失。
【性味】
甘，凉。 ①《嘉祜本草》："凉，无毒。" ②《纲目》："甘，凉，无毒。" ③《玉楸药解》："味苦，微凉。"
【归经】
《玉楸药解》："入足厥阴肝经。"
【功用主治】
凉血，止血。治肠风便血，赤白痢疾，崩带，淋浊。 ①《本草拾遗》："止肠风泻血，赤白痢。" ②《日华子本草》："治妇人崩中带下，入药炒用。" ③《玉楸药解》："清风退热，止衄敛营。治吐血，血崩，血淋，诸失血证。" ④《现代实用中药》："治肝脏病及眼病。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，1.5～3钱：或入丸、散。
