| 石膏 gypsum 含水硫酸盐矿物。成分为Ca[SO4] ·2H2O。单斜晶系，晶体呈板状，少数呈柱状，常见燕尾形双晶。白色至灰色，因含杂质而呈浅黄、浅褐等色。玻璃光泽。解理完全，解理面显珍珠光泽。薄片具挠性，莫氏硬度1.5～2，比重2.3。石膏呈多种形态产出：无色透明的晶体称透石膏；雪白色、半透明的细粒块体称雪花石膏；纤维状集合体并具丝绢光泽的称纤维石膏；光泽暗淡的疏松土状集合体称土石膏。主要由化学沉积作用形成。潟湖盆地中沉积的石膏层，规模巨大，常与硬石膏、石盐和钾石盐等共生。内陆盐湖盆地由蒸发而沉积的石膏矿床常存在于红色砂岩和页岩中。原生沉积的硬石膏层接近地表部分，因外部压力减低和受地表水的作用，可以水化成石膏。中国的石膏储量在世界上名列前茅，以湖北应城最为著名。石膏煅烧后得到的烧石膏大量用于塑造模型和建筑上的胶结材料；也可用作造纸、油漆的充填剂等。大量的石膏用于制取硫酸铵、生产硅酸盐水泥的缓凝剂、冶炼锌的助熔剂。可作中药，有清凉解热之功效。
