主试(experimenter)在心理实验中按照实验设计给被试指导语并执行实验程序者。主试在整个实验过程中要处理好与被试的关系，实验前接待被试要热情、有礼貌:在向被试交代任务时要避免用命令的口吻，应耐心解答被试提出的问题、解除他们的疑虑。总之，尽一切努力争取被试的合作。由于主试对被试的态度、主试操作的熟练程度等都可能对实验结果有影响，因此对不同的被试，主试都应保持同一种良好态度，并尽可能由同一主试来主持同一实验。总之，要避免主试变量去混淆自变量的效果。 (金志成撰林仲贤审)
