| 休斯（1864～1952） Hughes，William Morris 澳大利亚联邦总理（1915～1923）。1864年9月25日生于英国威尔士，1952年10月28日卒于悉尼。1884年移居澳大利亚昆士兰，从事工会运动。1894年作为工党候选人进入政界。1901年被选入联邦议会，1908～1915年3次出任司法部长。1915年任总理。1916年澳大利亚工党因征兵制问题发生分裂。休斯及部分党员退出工党，另组国家主义党。继续执政。第一次世界大战结束，休斯代表澳大利亚政府参加巴黎和会，会上休斯坚持澳大利亚对本大陆周围岛屿拥有控制权，并坚持在移民政策上拥有自决权。1923年因反对党的反对，辞去总理职务。后加入澳大利亚统一党。1945年加入R.G.孟席斯创立的自由党。著有《伟大的冒险》、《澳大利亚和今天的战争》等。 |
