世界各国电影技术界唯一的国际性组织。1956年成立，隶属于同联合国教科文组织有联系的国际电影电视学会。常务秘书处设于法国巴黎，由法国电影技术委员会主席C.苏莱担任常任秘书长。该会的宗旨是：①加强会员协会之间的了解与合作；②通过情报交流、国际性会议及技术人员的互访来加强电影科学技术的国际合作；③促进电影技术科研工作及支持电影技术标准化工作。
国际电影技术协会联合会只吸收各国的电影技术协（学）会和电影技术科研机构作为团体会员参加；没有相应协会的国家，在其技术协会成立前，接纳个人作为通信会员参加。80年代有美国、苏联、英国、法国、民主德国、联邦德国等约30个国家参加，中国电影科学技术研究所于1984年参加联合会，同年在巴黎召开的第15届全体大会上，马守清、邸世杰被选为该联合会的理事。联合会每两年开一次大会,讨论会务,宣读论文并评选和奖励在摄影、布景、照明、特技、色彩运用、录音、立体声还音、动画等方面取得优异技术成就的影片。
