该级船长77.7米,宽15.5米,吃水5.04米;排水量3251吨;有91名船员,其中6名是军官。船的动力装置为4台柴油机,共4800马力。船首部有一部艏推力器,以保证有良好的操纵性。为适应打捞救生,船上设置了一个处理有关潜水事故的减压室及最新最先进的起重设备、拖曳设备和潜水设备。该船能以 5节航速单独拖拽 l艘尼米兹级航空母舰。船的眼睛是一部sps-64导航雷达,并配有计算机化的避碰系统,能自动跟踪 20个不同的、距离达 76千米的水面目标,给出它们的准确位置、航速以及相遇的最近点。此外,在船桅下面的信号台上装有两个直径为 0.48米的探照灯,&127;可以从驾驶室遥控瞄准和调焦。在船上信号台的前、后和前起重校以及艏楼上,设有四个喷水枪以便进行消防。
