In view of negativity of Quaternary glaciation from eastern China, the author suggests; (l) not to use climatostratigraphic classification for Quaternary system in eastern China, (2) to use the term of diamictite instead of till in lithostratigraphic units,(3) Geographic names should be derived from permanent natural or artifical features which the stratigraphic unit is present.

he sedimentary characteristics of diamictites(so-called red beds) in the study area are fully studied for the first time.

The Luoquan Formation, in which the origin of diamictites has long been subject of controversy, occurs at the top of the Late Precambrian along the southern margin of the North China Platform.

Based on the study of petrology,mineralogy,microelements,palaeontology and geological occurrence characteristics,the authors hold that the thick beded metamorphic conglomerate in Sinian strata in Laoshouxia,Luoding area of westren Guangdong province,is a sedmental basal conglomerate with simple component suffered structural deformation.

Through recent 1∶50 000 regional surveys and study on the Lushan area, a suite of very thick bedded metaconglomerate of complex composition has been found in the vicinity of Huangling, Xingzi county.

Zircons from one granitic gravel sample of the metaconglomerate were chosen for SHRIMP U-Pb dating,and an age of(2632± 18)Ma is interpreted as the formation age of the granitic rocks of gravel,which suggests that at least part of gravels in the metaconglomerate were of tectonic origin.
