| 冻原 tundra 分布于极地附近或高山的无林沼泽型景观 。又称苔原。冻原分北极冻原和高山冻原。前者发育在欧亚大陆和北美北部边缘地区，后者发育在寒温带和温带山地和高原。一般分布地区冬季漫长而严寒，夏季温凉短暂，最暖月平均气温不超过14℃。年降水少（200～300毫米），风力强劲，土壤下常有永冻层，夏季表层解融，地面排水不良而处于饱和状态。只能生长苔藓、地衣、耐寒灌木和多年生草本植物，称冻原植被。植物矮小，多呈垫状，群落结构简单。植物的抗旱耐寒能力极强，有的甚至可在雪下生长开花。
