化学组成为pb[CO3]、晶体属三方晶系的碳酸盐矿物。晶体呈板柱状,常形成假六方对称的三连晶;集合体呈致密块状、钟乳状、皮壳状或土状。白色、灰色或微带各种浅色,玻璃至金刚光泽,断口呈油脂光泽。解理中等。摩斯硬度3~3.5,性脆,比重6.4~6.6,在阴极射线下发浅蓝绿色荧光。遇盐酸起泡。白铅矿是方铅矿氧化成铅帆pb[SO4]后,再由铅帆受含碳酸水溶液作用而形成的次生产物,见于铅锌矿床氧化带,常可作为找矿标志。大量聚集可作铅矿石开采。
