| 磷灰石 apatite 化学通式为X5[ZO4]3（F，Cl，OH)的磷酸盐矿物的总称。式中X代表Ca，Sr，Ba，Pb，Na，Ce，Y等；Z主要为P，还可为As，V，Si等。最常见的矿物种是氟磷灰石Ca5[PO4]3F，其次有氯磷灰石Ca5[PO4]3Cl、羟磷灰石Ca5[PO4]3（OH）、氧硅磷灰石Ca5[（Si，P，S）O4]3（O，OH，F）、锶磷灰石Sr5 [PO4]3F等。磷灰石晶体常见，属六方晶系，一般呈带锥面的六方柱；集合体呈粒状、致密块状、结核状；呈胶体形态的变种称为胶磷灰石，其矿石称为胶磷矿。磷灰石呈浅绿、黄绿、褐红等色，玻璃光泽，具不完全解理，断口不平坦，莫氏硬度5，比重3.18～3.21。加热后常可出现磷光 。将钼酸铵粉末置于磷灰石上，加硝酸，可生成黄色磷钼酸铵，用以快速试磷。磷灰石作为副矿物见于各种火成岩中，在碱性岩中可形成有工业价值的矿床，如俄罗斯科拉半岛的希比内磷灰石-霞石矿。规模巨大的磷灰石矿床主要为浅海成因，或由它们再经变质作用形成的沉积变质矿床，以胶磷矿为主。如中国湖北襄阳、云南昆阳、贵州开阳磷矿。由生物化学作用形成的海岛鸟粪层磷矿，主要成分为羟磷灰石，规模也很大。磷灰石是制造磷肥和提取磷及其化合物的最主要矿物原料；含稀土元素时可综合利用；透明而色泽丽润的磷灰石晶体可作低档宝石。
