   发育于干旱少雨、植被稀疏的荒漠地区的土壤。其主要特征是:土层薄,石砾多,石灰、石膏及水溶盐类含量高。广泛分布于亚洲、非洲、大洋洲、南美洲和北美洲。中国西北部的温带荒漠区,包括内蒙古、宁夏、青海、甘肃和新疆等省(自治区)也有存在。漠土地区降水少、蒸发量大,植被覆盖稀疏、生物作用微弱,土壤有机质积累作用不明显。中国境内的漠土根据气温或干旱程度的不同可分为灰漠土、棕漠土、灰棕漠土3个亚类。由于中国漠土地区处于温带及暖温带,日照长、热量足,只要有水源灌溉和设施并注意防治干旱、风沙和盐碱危害,可以建成肥沃的绿洲和优越的草场。其中灰漠土地区可进行农业生产,棕漠土和灰棕漠土地区则宜放牧骆驼等。
