| 神农架国家自然保护区 位于中国湖北省房县、兴山县、巴东县三县的交界处。面积6万公顷。建于1978年。保护区境内层峦叠嶂，山势高耸，主峰大神农架海拔3105米。由于这里地理环境错综复杂，加上受亚热带环流系统控制和高空环流的影响，因而气候差异悬殊，为各种动植物生长繁殖创造了良好条件。多变的气候和复杂的地形，使有些分布在东北、西北、西南的高寒地带植物，也能在这里繁衍。北温带植物有80％～90％的树种在这里生长，且有些科属是其他温带森林中没有的，如水杉。此外还有特产的经济植物和药用植物，如中国猕猴桃，果实肉厚、汁多、味美，含丰富的维生素C；三尖杉具有1亿年的历史，仅在中国神农架林区生长，它既是珍贵的药用植物，又是耐用的经济植物；珙桐起源古老，种类稀有，是中国一类保护植物。动物有一类保护动物金丝猴等。已列入国际“人与生物圈计划”。
