测量液体比重的仪器(见图)。比重又称相对密度，是一种物质的密度与第二种参考物质(如水)密度的比值。温度对液体比重影响较大，在测量比重时必须同时指明液体温度，也可在测量比重前先把液体调节至特定温度。例如苯的相对密度为 0.8765(20/4℃)，4是水的温度，20是苯的温度。测量比重时，先将待测液体装在大量筒中，然后将比重计放入并扶正，待上下浮动稳定后，从比重计上的刻度读数。用比重计测量液体比重，要比直接称量的方法简便迅速得多。
