It is found out both in the model and prototype that the heated effluent mixed with ambient water may be concentrated in the upper ,middle or lower layer of the main receiving water body or unit formally distributed along water depth of it due to the change of the vertical salinity gradient.

salinity gradient energy
盐度差能(sahnity gradientenergy)在江河人侮口淡水与海水之间或者在盐分浓度不同的海水之间，由于所含盐分不同，在界面上产生的巨大能量。通过在界面安置半透膜可将盐度差能以渗透压的形式显示出。这是一种高密度能量，当海水含盐浓度为35%。时，渗透压相当于25个大气压(约2.SMPa)。可用拦水坝、水压塔、半透膜、水轮机，发电机等组成渗透压电站。 海水盐度差所蕴藏的功率尸可以用公式计算:P一二Q。式中二为渗透压，Q为渗透量。 浓差电池是另一种盐度差能的利用形式，通过离子交换膜在电极两端产生电动势。这些原理虽然简单，但在工程上实现难度很大，尚处于实验研究阶段。 (高祥帆)
