这种热交换器是荷兰菲利浦公司于1968年设计制造的，并且在菲利浦型氦液化器中首先使用，它是由25～250目/平方英寸的铜丝网冲出正方形然后与合成树脂制成的隔板组成的，隔板上冲有若干个方形孔，再将隔板与铜丝网交替的叠在一起，放在两端的配气封头之间，然后将它放在模子中压紧，并且加热到150℃，使铜丝网粘结在受热软化的树脂中，直到树脂固体。其方形孔串联形成气体通道，每个气体通道被周围四个相反流动的通道包围，两股气流通过铜丝网进行热交换。它有很好的热接触，且用大量的狭通道代替其他类型的大通道，从而有很高的传热效率，其单位体积的传热面积可达3000m2/m3以上，它的纵向热导率小，克服了板翅式的缺点。
