Considering the disadvantages of consuming too much time by the bit-plane scanning by EBCOT(Embedded Block Coding With Optimized Truncation) encoder of JPEG2000,a fast algorithm of bit-plane scanning is proposed for the progressive transmission of gray medical images based on the characteristics of the three-pass scanning.
