四川曲种。流行于中国西南各省。车灯的前身为民间流行的车车灯，又叫车幺妹。最早是一种有领唱有帮腔的农歌形式，以后发展为走唱。由一人扮车幺妹坐于彩船之中，另一人手执彩扇，于彩船前后且唱且舞，每唱一句，由周围持灯群众帮腔，颇似北方的跑旱船。演唱时只有锣鼓伴奏，唱词多为即兴编唱的祝贺词句，腔调简单。每逢年节、庙会，都有群众扮演的车车灯在街头演唱,并无专业艺人。1953年,经艺人唐兴林改革，废弃街头表演的彩船，搬上舞台，成为专业化的曲艺形式。演唱时，由一二人或数人，两手各执"四页板"自打拍节，亦舞亦唱。并将原有车车灯唱腔整理成适于叙述故事、朴素明快的车灯调；帮腔衬句的调子，可根据唱词内容而灵活运用。除锣鼓等打击乐器外，还增加了二胡、月琴等乐器伴奏。车灯唱词是以七字句为基础，可以加衬字嵌字，上下句都要押韵。目前唱词已由过去的简单祝贺词改为有人物、有故事内容的唱段。新创作的曲目有《懒汉和鸡蛋》、《激浪丹心》等。
