俄罗斯仪表制造设计局最新研制的改进型“红土地-m2”炮弹配备有半主动激光制导系统，长度为1200毫米，重量54千克，战斗部重约11千克。与前辈“红土地-m”相比，改进后的制导炮弹的射程增加了30-40%，达到25千米。另外，“红土地-m2”的尾部结构也进行了重新设计，水平尾翼由原先的4个增加到了6个，这一改变使得炮弹在高海拔山区和复杂天气条件下的飞行更加平稳。新炮弹使用的战斗部威力更加强大，可确保对目标的杀伤概率达到0.8-0.9。
据统计，使用“红土地-m2”执行打击任务时的弹药消耗量仅为使用传统炮弹时的五十分之一至百分之一，成本则只有使用后者时的四分之一至十分之一。
俄仪表制造设计局计划从2007年5月份开始在印度境内海拔高度为6000米的山区对“红土地-m2”进行测试。目前，印度军方已装备有大批“红土地-m”制导炮弹。
