牛顿环 Newton's ring 由一个透镜和一块平板玻璃(或两个透镜)所夹空气薄层所形成的等厚干涉条纹。最早由R.玻意耳和R.胡克各自观察到,后I.牛顿曾作过仔细的研究并试图用光的微粒说进行解释,正确的解释则归功于光的波动说的支持者T.杨。平凸透镜与平玻璃板间夹一层厚度不均的薄空气层,以单色平行光垂直入射。入射光在空气层上下两表面反射后,所得两束反射光在空气层附近叠加而产生等厚干涉条纹(见薄膜干涉)。
