在内蒙古鄂托克旗境内的“百眼井”是一个千古之谜。百眼井，蒙语称“敖楞瑙亥音其日嘎”，用汉语讲就是“众狗之井”。内蒙古鄂托克旗公其日嘎乡百眼井村在一望无际的大平梁上，有一东北向西南沿伸的凹形地带，长约３００米，宽约１００米的地上，分布着以１０米左右的间距展开的８０多眼水井。旗委宣传部新闻科长高士宗说，原来这里有１０８眼井，因废弃多年，部分已被沙土淹没。
说百眼井是千古之谜，有三个理由。一是得名之谜，蒙古族牧民称其为“众狗之井”，这是何意？这些井是一群狗刨挖出来的？还是为一大群狗饮水之用？二是如何开凿出之谜，百眼井星罗棋布，深的百十米，浅的十余米，井壁光滑，无凿戳的痕迹，也没下井的蹬阶，百且穿透一层又一层坚硬的沙岩，鬼斧神工，叹为观止，谁有如此神力？三是百眼井周边地区多为荒漠化草地，古时也没有先进的探测仪器，咋知在层层沙岩之下，会有如此甘泉?传说，当年成吉思汗在这里屯驻大军，每日携带众多的猎狗，在草原上围捕黄羊、狍子、狐狸。一日，狩猎的人们人困马乏，猎狗焦渴，草原上既无清泉也无井水，成吉思汗心急如火，命令兵器巨匠尧勒达日玛，以最快的速度找到水源地，钻出１０８眼水井，解了燃眉之急。从此，当地牧民就称这片水井为“敖楞瑙亥音其日嘎”
