利用经编线圈结构把由纱线层或纤维网构成的衬料或地布缝编成坯布的经编机。纬纱从筒子上引出后，经铺纬架往复运动，铺成纱线交叉折叠的纬纱层，自机器上方输入。缝编循环开始时，尖头槽针自最后位置前移，从固定的脱圈沉降片之间伸出并刺过纬纱层。坯布的旧线圈被固定的挡布针顶住，不致随织针一起向前。在槽针逐步从纬纱层穿出时，由于针芯运动比针身缓慢而且动程短，因而槽针针口逐渐开放，使旧线圈最终退至针杆上。槽针伸到最前位置时，导纱针已经作了针背横移，并随后向上摆动作针前垫纱横移，接着导纱针再向下摆动。当槽针后退时,针钩带着新纱线向后运动,针芯便逐渐封闭针口，为成圈创造条件。同时由于脱圈沉降片挡住了旧线圈，纬纱层中的纬纱便被经编线圈夹持而固定。纱线层缝编也可织入衬经纱。所以这种型式的缝编机是将纬向或经纬向纱线层用经编线圈的圈干和延展线夹持固着而成坯布的。用纤维网作衬料时，由于无须经过纺纱的纤维占织物总重量一半以上，经济效果较好。产品可经起绒、印花等后整理，以增加花色。缝编也可用较稀疏的织物作衬料，并利用毛圈沉降片的作用，使缝编纱形成直立在布面上的毛圈。如再经拉绒、剪毛、烫光等后整理，可获得人造毛皮产品。
