每年秋未时节，北海乡大潮口，都将出现大海潮的奇观景象。此刻大海无比壮阔，观者心胸开阔，视野无限。
当呼啸奔腾的大潮，滚滚涌来时，人们争先恐后赶去观看。大潮从渤海汇成后浪，朝着弧形大潮口冲撞跌打，开始呈扇形，后来越涌越窄，加上海滩高而水浅，潮头慢走，后浪迅猛推进，即刻形成一堵海浪墙，迎面扑过，翻腾飞扬。其势如万马奔腾，又如蛟龙闹水。 砰击海滩的涛声，如雷声隆隆。一声巨响之后，掀起近十米高巨大的草帽头状浪峰，直冲云天，惊心动魂。转瞬间，奔腾飞扬的潮峰，跌落散去，突然涌起的回头浪，似凶猛的禽兽之爪抓勾住海滩砂石，只听哗哗声响，一阵后浪涌来，又扬起滔滔浪峰。
