| 毒蜥属 Heloderma 蜥蜴目毒蜥科唯一的一属。体粗尾短，外形笨拙，体表华丽，在黄色或橙色的背景上具暗色的网纹，头部略扁，背面和四肢外侧被有大的骨板。有 2种 ：毒蜥分布于美国西南部，全长多在 500毫米左右；珠毒蜥分布于墨西哥 ，全长达900 毫米。以小型哺乳动物 、他种蜥蜴以及鸟和爬行动物的卵为食。7月交配，7月末到8月中在开阔地带深约125毫米的洞穴中产卵3～7枚，卵长径67～75毫米，白色，壳薄而粗糙。毒蜥的下颌有毒腺，毒液通过导管注入口腔，再经毒牙的沟注入被毒蜥咬住的伤口内。人被毒蜥咬伤有痛感，但极少致命。
