以鞭毛作为运动细胞器的原虫。种类繁多,分布很广,生活方式多种多样。有的寄生于消化道,有的寄生于泌尿生殖道内,有的寄生于血液及组织内。生活过程中以分裂法繁殖。有些种类尚可形成包囊。寄生人体的鞭毛虫常见的有十余种,其中利什曼原虫及锥虫对人体危害极大。
