性质:一种含水的钠镁硫酸盐矿物。含氧化钠18.53%。单斜晶系,晶体呈短柱状,集合体呈粒状、致密块状、纤维状或瘤状。无色透明,呈白、灰、绿、黑、浅蓝或浅红色。玻璃光泽。硬度2.5~3,密度2.2~2.5g/cm3。味微咸带苦味,燃烧时易失水,火焰呈黄色。温度高于24.5℃时    溶解于水,并产生芒硝沉淀。产于海相盐矿床和内陆盐湖沉积物中。是制取硫酸钠、硫酸铵、硫化碱等的重要原料。
