分类地位:扁形动物门吸虫纲单殖亚纲（monogenea）
三代虫身体扁平纵长，前端有两个突起的头器，能够主动伸缩，又有单细胞腺的头腺一对，开口于头器的前端，此虫没有眼点，口位于头器下方中央，下通咽、食道和两条盲管状的肠在体2两侧。体后端的固着器为一大形的固着盘。盘中央有2个大锚,大锚之间由2条横捧相连，盘的边缘有16个小钩，有秩序地排列着。三代虫用后固着器上的大锚和小钩固着在寄主的身上，同时前端的头腺也分泌粘液，用以粘着在寄主体上或像尺蠖一样的慢慢爬行。
三代虫是雌雄同体，有卵巢2个及精巢一个，位于身体后部。三代虫为卵胎生，在卵巢的前方有未分裂的受精卵及发育的胚胎，在大胚胎内又有小胚胎，因此称为三代虫。
三代虫寄生于鱼类体表及鳃上，对鱼苗及春花鱼种危害很大，能造成体表的创伤，病鱼皮肤上形成灰蓝色无光泽的粘液膜。鱼初呈极度不安，狂游于水中，继则食欲不振、消瘦、以致死亡。
