中子在与原子核相互碰撞后，被核所吸收并发出γ射线的过程。在有些情况下亦会导致核的β衰变或裂变。
用中子作“炮弹”去轰击原子核。当一个中子挤进原子核这个球体时，通常称为中子俘获。
