断流试验实验室规模巨大，需要大量投资。中国在西安、沈阳和上海建有较大规模的断流试验装置。为了节约投资，可装设一种合成回路。这种装置的工作原理是断路器开断电流时，在电弧燃烧时期电流大而电弧电压很低（几十伏到几千伏），电弧过零时期电流极小而外加电压很高。合成回路采用两个电源装置，一个称为电流回路，是低电压大电流电源，在燃弧期间加在断路器上；另一个称为电压回路，提供高电压小电流，在电弧过零时期加在断路器上。这种装置使用2个电源,在控制上较复杂，但造价低得多。
