性状描述：白色结晶性粉末。熔点103-107℃，易溶于乙醇、丙酮、氯仿，略溶于乙醚，微溶于水。几乎无臭，味苦。

生产方法：2-甲基戊醛与甲醛进行醛醇缩合反应得到2-甲基-2-丙基丙二醇，然后与光气及氨反应，或与氰酸钠及盐酸反应制得甲丙氨酯。

用途：弱安定药。用于治疗神经官能症的焦滤紧张失眠。
