性质：同位素分离是从研究分离稳定性同位素开始发展起来的，所以同位素分离有时也称稳定同位素分离。严格来说，稳定同位素分离不应包括含放射性同位素的分离：如235U和238U的分离，1H与T的分离。化学交换法两种化合物中的同位素相互交换位置，达到同位素的化学平衡时，某一同位素浓集在某一化合物中，另一同位素则浓集在另一化合物中，而该两化合物分别存在于不同相内，如气液相、液液相(萃取)、气固相(气体色谱)、液固相(离子交换)，从而达到同位素分离的目的。如1H和D的分离可采用硫化氢-水气液交换体系、氢水气液交换体系、氢氨气液交换体系；10B和11B的分离可采用三氟化硼-三氟化硼二甲醚气液交换体系；6Li和7Li的分离可采用氢氧化锂-锂示剂液液交换体系；14N和15N分离可采用一氧化氮-硝酸气液交换体系。
