性质:在参与的酶反应中略具底物作用的辅酶。例如,尼克酰胺腺嘌呤二核苷酸(NAD)在下列两个独立的酶反应中,相继与脱氢酶和还原酶的酶蛋白反应,催化底物转换。在第一个反应中,NAD+接受底物脱下的氢成为NADH后从脱氢酶解离;在第二个反应中,NADH与还原酶反应,向该酶底物供给氢。因为辅酶起了第二底物的作用,故也称辅底物。
