形态特征:鸢尾科番红花属多年生草本植物。鳞茎球形,外皮被褐色膜质鳞叶。叶均基生9-15枚,窄条形,长15-20厘米,宽2-3毫米。花顶生,自叶丛中抽出,淡紫色。蒴果矩圆形,长约3厘米,具3钝棱;种子多数,圆球形,种皮革质。
生境分布:原产西班牙,法国、荷兰、伊朗及印度等国。我国有栽培。
用途:柱头供药用,能活血、化瘀生新。还可做居室及庭院观赏花卉。
