为蔷薇科植物扁核木的根。植物形态详"青刺尖"条。
【采集】
全年可采。
【药材】
干燥根条，多切成段状，长约30厘米，直径0.5～1厘米。栓皮橙色，多纵行皱皮，有不规则的片状剥落，皮厚约2毫米，易脱落。断面平整，心材色深，有辐射状线纹，整齐而细密。质重。香气浓。
【性味】
酸苦，温，无毒。
【功用主治】
敛肺，止虚咳、久咳。
【宜忌】
吐血者禁服。
【选方】
治虚咳久咳：梅花刺根四两(干者二两)。炖猪肉(肺劳咳)或煎水服(一般咳嗽)。
