概述
1978年美国通用动力公司地面系统分部(general dynamics land systems division)研究了将m9装甲战斗推土车的推土铲安装在m1艾布拉姆斯主战坦克上的可能性,结果表明,为保持m1坦克低矮外形的优点,就得设计新的推土铲。1981年美国陆军贝尔沃研究发展和工程设计中心与巴奈斯和赖内克公司(barnes and reinecke)签定了设计和制造推土铲样品的研制合同,1982年在诺克斯堡试验了该样品。1985年在该地又试验了以色列的推土铲装在m1坦克上的匹配情况。试验结果促进了美国陆军装甲学校对m1坦克推土装置要求的修正和解决。该推土铲安装在主战坦克的吊环和牵引钩上,由主战坦克内的24v电压系统驱动。
