性质:又称激光工作物质。受激辐射能向外发出大量光子的材料。分为气体、固体、半导体和色素等四类。气体激光材料有He-Ne、Ar、CO2等,波长范围宽(从紫外到红外)、稳定性、方向性好,但有装置尺寸大的缺点。固体激光材料有红宝石、YAG(Y3Al3O12:Nd3+),氟化物(CaF2、MgF2)及(2Al2O3:Cr3+)LiMgAlSiO3玻璃等,容易获得高输出的脉冲、装置尺寸小,但有输出功率管器件大小的限制,不能连续工作等缺点。半导体激光材料有砷化镓、砷化镓-锑、镓化铟-砷、镓化铝-砷、硒化铅等,具有高性能、小型化和直接可调制等优点,但有方向性不好与只能由红外光激发等缺点。色素激光材料有若丹明或碱性蕊香红、氯氧化硒(SeOCl2)、硫化铕(EnS3)等,有波长可连续改变优点,但方向性不好和色素溶液劣化快等。激光材料主要用于物体大小测量、距离测量、精密图形和平整度测量、传真通讯录像、全息照相+游戏机等用的光源、激光通讯、信息处理、医疗手术、各种机加工、雷达以及分光分析等。
