本品为胶蚧科动物紫胶虫Laccifer lacca Kerr.的雌体寄生于豆科檀属DalbergiaL.f.和梧桐科火绳树属Eriolaenea DC.等为主的多种植物的树干上,所分泌的胶质物。
【性状】
本品呈不规则的半圆柱状,长1~7cm,宽1~1.5cm,表面红黄色或紫褐色,凹凸不平,有皱纹、小虫眼及孔隙。附着于树枝处并凹入成沟,边缘钝圆。质硬而脆,断面可见放射状排列的长圆形虫窝,其内常见白色粉末或紫黑色虫之尸体。气微,味微涩。
【鉴别】
本品遇热即软化熔解,并放出大量气泡而体积膨胀;燃烧时产生黑烟和特臭。
【炮制】
除去杂质。
【性味】
甘、咸,平。
【功能与主治】
消毒,止血,活血化瘀。用于血痨热,肿毒恶疮,瘀血不化。
【用法与用量】
1.5~6g。
【贮藏】
置通风干燥处。
