(1882～1936)
日本小说家、儿童文学作家。生于广岛市。自幼对文学发生兴趣。1904年入东京帝国大学英文系，直接受到作家夏目漱石的指导和影响。他的习作短篇小说《千鸟》,经夏目推荐,刊登在《杜宇》杂志上。1907年发表短篇小说集《千代纸》，汇集《三月七日》、《千鸟》、《山彦》等早期作品，从此确立了他的作家的地位。这些短篇小说都是描写青年男女纯真的爱情的故事。1908年大学毕业后，曾在中学、大学任教。1918年辞去教职，主编童话杂志《赤鸟》。所写儿童文学作品中，比较著名的有《红鹦鹉》、《傻小猴》、《贪婪的猫》、《大海螺》、《螃蟹王子》、《象的鼻子》等，主要描写动物的纯洁和美。曾帮助少年开展作文运动，培养儿童文学家，为发展日本儿童文学做出了积极的贡献。
铃木的主要长篇小说《桑子》描写一个孤女阿组到刚离了婚的画家青木家里去帮工。由于她的温顺、勤奋，给寂寞的青木家带来了欢乐。可新佣人来了，她悄悄地为青木缝制好夏天的被子就离去了，留下了一缕淡淡的恋情。铃木的作品充满柔情和美感，富有诗情画意。有的作品带有自然主义倾向。
