原英国“尊严”级航母，1943年开工，中途停工十年之久，直至1957年印度购入方继续建造，1961年服 役。是亚洲的第一艘航空母舰。1979、1983年两度改造后，1987-88年再度改装，加装了滑翘式甲板。
满 载排水量1.98万吨。参加过1971年的印巴战争。可搭载6架英制“海鹞”式垂直/短距起降战斗机、9架 “西风”式反潜直升机、“海王”式反潜/反舰式直升机。已于1997年1月退役。
