1998年9月30日正式加入英国海军的“海洋”号新型直升机母舰，是英国15年来建造的最大的军舰， 当然也是英国“海洋世纪”的主力舰。 “海洋”号在吨位上比“无敌”级航母略大，使命是装载一个中队使用的12架“海王”或“默林” 直升机，以 支援英国和荷兰的两栖部队；同时还可搭载6架“山猫”攻击机、“支奴干”运输机和“海 鹞”垂直／短距起降战斗机。 “海洋”号满载排水量21758吨，长203.43米，动力为两台“克劳斯勒”16pc 2.6v400 型柴油发动 机，功率2.39万马力；飞行甲板长170米，宽31.7米；舰员265人，航空人员180人，最多可载1275人，航 速18节，续航力8000海里／15节。
