性质:位于毛被之下,紧附于真皮层上面。由不同形状的表皮细胞排列组成。表皮厚度随动物种类而异,占整个皮厚的0.5%~5%。表皮由下至上分为4层,即生发层(马氏层)、颗粒层、透明层和角质层。除生发层外,其余3层由死亡细胞自下而上推移堆砌而成乙表皮对液体渗透有阻碍作用,并有抵抗酶水解的能力,是生皮的保护膜。紧接于表皮下面还有一层很薄的基底膜。表皮在制革过程中须完全除去,而在毛皮加工中必须与毛被一起保留。
