用于补偿在生产过程中损耗掉的资本设备的投资，亦即折旧。重置投资是保证再生产所必需的条件。作为固定资本的机器设备在使用过程中会由于磨损（因使用某项资产而造成的价值损失）、自然力的影响 (朽烂与腐蚀)以及逐渐的陈旧过时而影响正常的生产水平。因此，须按其价值转移和损失程度，以货币形态逐渐积累起来，以备固定资本的更新。重置投资决定于资本设备的数量、构成和使用年限等。例如，假定技术和其他条件不变，生产100万美元的产品平均需要使用300万美元的机器设备，若机器设备的使用年限为10年，每年损耗设备1/10，则每年需重置投资30万美元。重置投资与净投资 (或新投资)之和构成总投资。
