学习数学模型(mathematical model。flearning)为了定量地预测学习过程所提出的数学模型。对学习过程的定量的描述，在沙斯顿的学习曲线和赫尔的行为理论中己经开始有了体现，但还不能称为学习的数学模型。真正的学习数学模型的建立，是从1950年以后，概率模型引进学习领域才开始的。它的主要代表有:埃斯梯斯的刺激抽样理论、布什和毛斯台勒提出的线性模型。这些模型的数学基础，大多是概率过程的应用，特别是马尔克夫过程的应用。例如，刺激抽样理论，首先把刺激情境作为刺激因素的总和，在学习的某一时点上反应发生时，从全部刺檄中抽出作为标本的刺激因素。把作为标本而被抽出的刺激因素称为有效因素。假使在这一时点上反应引起时，这些有效因素就与其反应相联系。另外，就反应来说，在进行特定的反应时，仅有进行和不进行那种反应的两种情形的场合，这些反应是相互排斥的。这时，各刺激因素被认为只是和两个反应因素之一相联合。而且，所谓条件作用就是刺激因素和反应之间的联合状态。其反应发生的概率为尸，如果全部刺激因素的总和是N个，刺激总和与特定的反应相结合的因素为X个时，那么尸二XIN。另外，不进行强化时，有效因素就是条件作用的消失。像这样用概率的数学模型来解释学习过程的实验结果就是学习的数学模型的一例。学习的概率模型的主要贡献是，对反应系列的概率特性进行了详细的分析，从而构成了各种学习模型。这些模型比较适用于实验条件下的迷津学习、辨别学习、回避学习、对偶联想学习等领域。由于学习现象非常复杂，目前学习的数学模型，一般来说还只限于在实验条件下，适用于简单的学习过程。 诬〕互国撰车丈博审)
