| 澳大利亚人 Australians 澳大利亚土著居民的后裔和英裔澳大利亚人的泛称。土著居民属尼格罗-澳大利亚人种。其祖先可能于旧石器时代晚期从东南亚迁入。18世纪英国人侵入时，约有30万人，分为500多个部落。社会尚处在原始公社制的早期阶段，部落无严密组织，常以地方群体或胞族为活动单位。盛行图腾崇拜。使用石、木、骨制工具，从事采集和渔猎。殖民时代惨遭屠杀，人口锐减。幸存者被驱赶至中西部沙漠地带。1972年成立土著居民事务部，承认土著居民对部分土地的所有权。今多保持传统生活，少数人同化于白人社会，在牧厂或其他企业做工。
英裔澳大利亚人又称盎格鲁-澳大利亚人，是占澳大利亚人口多数的民族。属欧罗巴人种，讲英语，属印欧语系日耳曼语族。多信基督教新教，部分信天主教。主要由英国和爱尔兰移民的后裔结合而成。澳大利亚原为澳大利亚土著居民的故乡。1788年英国在今悉尼附近建立殖民据点，并将本国罪犯流放至此。19世纪初牧羊业大发展，大批劳工应募而来，1851年发现金矿后，志愿移民激增。后又不断吸收欧洲其他国家的移民，于20世纪初形成统一的现代民族。经济以牧业、农业为主，近年工矿业亦有较大发展。 |
