环境效益自然环境对人类生产过程和生活的有益作用和影响，可用于衡量人类社会经济活动所产生的环境效果。环境效益既包括保护白然环境固有的生态功能(即对人类的效益)，也包括人类发挥主观能动性，通过生态、资源与环境的积极有效的保护活动创造更有益于人类的环境。环境效益具有社会性、公益性和持久性等特点。通常.把对社会生产的环境效益称为环境生产力，把对生活的环境效益称为环境舒适性。环境效益有些可用货币收益计量(如森林提供的木材和薪柴)，但大部分环境效益难以用货币收益计量，如森林具有的涵养水源、防风固沙、保持水土、净化空气、保护森林动植物、维护物种多样性等的环境效益。多年来一些学者采用多种方法试图将环境效益货币化，赋予其在量上的可比性。研究结果表明，环境效益是很大的。如森林的环境效益比木材价格高得多(2.15:1)。环境效益的高低取决于自然资源的丰匾和环境质量的高低，也与社会生产力发展水平和社会生活水平有关。世界由于环境资源日益短缺，人与环境的矛盾日益尖锐，环境对人类社会生产和生活的制约和影响日益增大，在考虑经济发展的同时，谋求环境效益的协调就成为整个环境保护的基本策略。
