The paper, from the aspect of pragmatic reasoning, discusses the linguistic features and the pragmatic presupposition of headlines to help readers understand news reports more critically.

The present study attempts a paradigm of model-based pragmatic reasoning,which is in line with the basic viewpoints of daily language use in pragmatics on the one hand,and is different from the principle-approach paradigm on the other.

The author examines this pattern from the following four aspects: the grammatical features of this pattern from the aspect of syntactic analysis;the negative meaning of this pattern from the aspect of conversational implicature;the pragmatic reasoning from the aspect of the cognitive theory and the conventionalization of this pat.
