中国舞蹈学术研究机构。成立于1980年，它的前身是中央艺术研究机构舞蹈组(1974)、文学艺术研究院音乐舞蹈研究室舞蹈研究组(1976)、文学艺术研究院舞蹈研究室(1978)。吴晓邦、董锡玖先后任所长。研究所分设舞蹈理论研究室、舞蹈史研究室、编辑部、资料室等。自1981年开始招收舞蹈硕士学位研究生，现任所长资华筠。
研究所主要从事系统研究舞蹈基础理论、中外舞蹈史论及当代舞蹈理论、评论等，以推动和发展中国的舞蹈事业。1980年创办了《舞蹈艺术》（季刊），编辑出版了《中国舞蹈史》、《中国古代舞蹈史话》、《舞蹈概论》、《敦煌舞姿》、《舞蹈编导知识》、《汉族民间舞简介》、《中国古代舞蹈家的故事》等书籍，并经常举办各类舞蹈学术讲座。
